What to watch for vs. Oshawa FireWolves

Rock Begin Season Close To Home

Oshawa, ON – The Toronto Rock will open up their 2025-26 regular season on the road tonight at Oshawa against the recently relocated FireWolves at Tribute Communities Centre.

Fans can watch the game vs. Oshawa at 7:30pm ET on TSN and on TSN’s digital platform TSN+ via TSN.ca and the TSN App as well as ESPN+.  To stream the game on TSN+ or ESPN+, a paid subscription is required.

Here’s what to watch for in Friday’s matchup.

  • Following this morning’s shoot around, the Rock placed defender Josh Jubenville on the Injured Reserve list with a lower body injury which was sustained in the Rock’s final preseason game against Philadelphia. Moving to the Active Roster in his place is D Jake Darlison.
  • Tonight marks the NLL debuts of three future NLL superstars. From the 2025 NLL Draft, first overall pick CJ Kirst and third overall pick Owen Hiltz along with 2024 NLL Draft second overall pick Sam English will all officially pull on the Rock jersey for the first time.
  • Mark Matthews is back and healthy for the first time, maybe ever. Earlier in the week, the future NLL Hall of Famer explained that his body is right, maybe for the first time in his NLL career.  That’s a very scary thought considering what Matthews has accomplished in his highly decorated career.
  • In exhibition, the Rock won twice beating Saskatchewan and Philadelphia and suffered just one loss to Colorado and it came in overtime. The highlight of the preseason might have been rookie Owen Hiltz’s performance against Colorado where he was in on all eight first half goals, scoring four of them himself and adding four helpers.  He finished the night with 4G+5A for 9 points which meant he was in on 90% of the Rock’s goals in the 11-10 OT loss to the Mammoth.
  • The FireWolves relocated in the off-season from Albany to Oshawa. Tracing back the lineage, the franchise was in New England prior to Albany and going one step back from there, the FireWolves are the original Philadelphia Wings franchise who won six NLL championships in their first go in Philly.
  • INJURY REPORT: TD Ierlan is on the PUP List after being injured during the PLL summer season.
  • The Rock will have a bye week before their triumphant return to Rock City on Saturday, December 13 at TD Coliseum in Hamilton when they face the Calgary Roughnecks at 7pm ET.
