Caputo Signs 2-Year Deal

High Ceiling For Gritty Forward

Oakville, ON – Toronto Rock Owner, President and GM Jamie Dawick today announced the re-signing of forward Phil Caputo to a two-year deal. After finishing the season on the Rock’s practice roster, Caputo was eligible for unrestricted free agency but has agreed to terms on a deal to keep him with the Rock for the next two seasons.

The signing is pending league approval.

While Caputo has limited experience at the pro level with just two years under his belt, he’s continuing to push the players ahead of him on the depth chart by making the best of his opportunities. After appearing in just one game for New England in 2016, notching a goal, the righty from Brampton, ON scored in his first game for the Rock in 2017. Not only was it his first game, but it was his first shot on goal in a Rock uniform. The 23-year old has continued his upward ascent with a strong summer playing for the Brampton Excelsiors of Ontario’s Major Series Lacrosse. He finished the season with 36 goals, placing him fourth among the league leaders.

“We like Phil’s development, he’s had a strong summer,” said Dawick. “He’s a guy that has a lot of talent and we see some possible versatility in his game that might allow him to contribute in some different ways. He is a competitor and plays with an edge. We want to see him make the most of his opportunity.”

In 6 games in 2017, Caputo scored 6 goals and added 2 assists for 8 points, while collecting 12 loose balls. He was originally selected in the third round by the New England Black Wolves in the 2015 NLL Draft. Caputo originally signed with the Rock prior to the 2017 season.

Dawick expects more contracts to be finalized in the next few days as the Rock’s training camp roster begins to take shape.
