Clean Sweep For Rock At Jr. NLL Tournament

Jr. Rock Teams Roll Through Tournament Without A Loss

Oakville, ON – The Toronto Rock Jr. NLL teams each captured their respective divisions and capped a perfect weekend by winning gold at the sixth annual Jr. NLL Tournament on Sunday at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, ON.

For the Peewee and Bantam Jr. Rock teams it marked three straight titles and the Midget Jr. Rock are back in possession of the Jr. NLL Cup for the first time since 2016. That 2016 season also mirrors this year as the Jr. Rock won all three division titles at that tournament as well.

In the Midget division, it marked the second straight year the Jr. Rock had met the Jr. Roughnecks in the championship game. In a tight defensive battle, the Jr. Rock came away with a 4-2. Jack Budway’s goal just 35 seconds into the second half stood up as the game winner. The Midget Jr. Rock got to the championship game by defeating the Jr. Bandits in the semi-finals earlier on Sunday.

After a tight first half in the Bantam championship game, the Jr. Rock broke open a 4-4 game, outscoring the Jr. Stealth 8-2 over the final 20 minutes en route to a 12-6 championship win and their third consecutive Jr. NLL Bantam title. Cam Sanderson scored the eventual game winner and earned Jr. Bantam MVP honours. Earlier in the day, the Jr. Rock snuck by the Jr. Mammoth 7-5 to get to the finals.

It was the Peewees that completed not only the clean sweep for the Jr. Rock but also a three-peat for the Jr. Rock Peewee team overall, winning their third straight Jr. NLL Cup. The Jr. Rock built an early 3-0 lead and never looked back in an 8-3 triumph over the Jr. Roughnecks. The scoring was spread out in the championship game with Jack Goddard being the lone multi-goal scorer with a pair. The Peewee Jr. Rock earned their spot in the final with a close 5-3 win over the Jr. Bandits on Sunday morning.

One of the truly unique experiences of the Jr. NLL tournament is the interaction the Jr. NLL players get to have with the pros that coach each team over the weekend. Rock players Nick Rose and Damon Edwards were behind the Bantam bench, Colin Doyle manned the Peewee bench along with Rock strength coach Sean Holmes and the Midget coaching staff featured Challen Rogers and Rock Owner, President and GM Jamie Dawick.

The players for the Jr. Rock teams that compete at the annual Jr. NLL Tournament are selected from players that play in the Rock Elite League at the TRAC in the winter. Registration is now open for the 2018-19 season at torontorockac.com.
