Corey Small Returns On 1-Year Contract

Veteran Scorer Delivered 40 Goals In First Rock Season

Oakville, ON –Toronto Rock Owner, President, and GM Jamie Dawick today announced the signing of Rock forward Corey Small to a 1-year contract extension for the 2023-24 season.  The signing is pending league approval.

The 36-year-old from St. Catharines, ON proved to be a valuable unrestricted free agent signing last August and Dawick feels there’s plenty left in the tank of the veteran sniper who tallied 40 goals in his first season with the Rock.

“Corey was great for us last year,” said Dawick.  “He met and exceeded expectations stats wise, but overall, he was just great for us and a huge piece on our left side.  He scored a lot of big goals and I know in talking to him, he’s got a lot more still to give and we believe the same.  We love to hear his excitement about playing for the Rock and we are very pleased to have him back in the fold for another season.”

Small has played 12 seasons in the NLL with stops in Edmonton, Vancouver, Buffalo, and Philadelphia before landing in Toronto last summer.  While just 18 of his 195 career games have been played in a Rock jersey, having the opportunity to play for this franchise and having a chance to pursue a championship at this point in his career are two things that clearly continue to drive him.

“I am honoured to be back as a member of this first-class organization,” expressed Small who you’ll rarely catch without a smile on his face.  “Last season wasn’t the finish we wanted, but this team is on the brink of greatness and motivated to get there.  I’m looking forward to getting back on the floor with my teammates with the goal of winning a championship.”

Small’s signing solidifies the Rock’s ‘Big Three’ left side that also boasts Dan Craig and Mark Matthews.  All three of which topped the 25-goal mark and 80-point plateau last season.  It’s arguably the deepest trio of lefties in the NLL.
