Fan Choice Award Winners

The Fans Have Spoken!

Oakville, ON – Voting has concluded in the 2017-18 Toronto Rock Fan Choice Awards. Fans were asked to pick the Top Forward, Top Defender, Top Rookie, Fan Favourite and the team’s MVP from this past season.

The race for the fan’s choice as the team’s MVP was headlined by two forwards but in the end, leading scoring Rob Hellyer secured 32 percent of the vote, edging out Tom Schreiber who collected 24 percent. Challen Rogers (18 percent) and Nick Rose (12 percent) were third and fourth in MVP voting.

As for the fan’s choice for the Top Forward, it was the same duo finishing one-two, but this time it was ‘Captain America’, Tom Schreiber (25 percent) narrowly edging out Hellyer (23 percent). Schreiber was the consensus mid-season MVP pick amongst most NLL insiders and if it wasn’t for a knee injury that forced him out of seven games, he would have likely competed for the league scoring title in just his second season in the NLL.

For the team’s Top Defender, Rogers was the runaway winner with 24 percent of the vote from the Rock faithful. Drew Belgrave (15 percent), Latrell Harris (13 percent) and Brad Kri (11 percent) were next in line after Rogers. After an incredible sophomore season, Rogers may also get some recognition at the league level as he’s one of the favourites to win NLL Transition Player of the Year.

Only two rookies saw significant playing time for the Rock in 17-18 and the fans felt Drew Belgrave deserved the nod over Dan Craig. Belgrave ended up with 56 percent of the Top Rookie votes. Both players were part of the Rock’s 2017 NLL Draft harvest with Belgrave being the team’s top pick (2nd round, 15th overall) and Craig sliding in as the team’s final selection (6th round, 57th overall).

The Fan Favourite was also a close vote between, you guessed it, Hellyer and Schreiber with Hellyer (15 percent) earning just a few more votes than Schreiber (14 percent). Rogers (10 percent), Belgrave (9 percent) and Nick Rose (9 percent) followed the top two.

Just for taking part, fans were also entered to win some great prizes!

1st Prize – Renee Regimbal (4 Platinum Tickets to the 18-19 Rock Home Opener)

2nd Prize – Mackenzie McLaughlin ($250 Game Worn credit in the Toronto Rock Team Shop)

3rd Prize – Alex Kleinsteuber (A Full Under Armour Lacrosse Stick)

A big thank you to all the fans who voted in this year’s Toronto Rock Fan Choice Awards!
