Fathers Trip To Philly On Saturday

Toronto – Saturday when the Toronto Rock board their flight to Philadelphia for their game that night against the Wings, they will have a few special passengers on the plane.  The fathers of the players will be making the trip alongside their sons as the Rock take on the Wings.

Toronto Rock Owner and President Jamie Dawick believes this could be a once in a lifetime father-son experience.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for many of the Dads to see their sons play outside of Toronto for the first time,” said Dawick.  “The Dads have sacrificed a lot and this is a chance to give them a really unique experience.”

The Rock Dads will be wearing jerseys with their sons name stitched across the back as they watch the Rock try to win their third consecutive game of the 2012 season.

“I’ve always thought it was a special night to see it happen in other sports,” expressed Dawick.  “I’ve always wanted to do it with the Rock.  Our relationship with Porter Airlines has provided the opportunity to make this trip possible.   We jumped at the chance to make this special night happen.”

Peter Merrill will have a son playing on both teams on Saturday night.  His oldest son Patrick plays for the Rock while younger son Brodie is a member of the Wings.

“It’s great that they’re both playing,” said Merrill.  “It’s an important game for both teams, but I’d prefer if they played on the same team.”

The chance to see his son Patrick play for the Rock on a road trip like this is something that Peter truly appreciates.

“I think ever since Jamie has been involved the whole spirit of the franchise has changed,” explained Merrill.   “He’s a first class guy and he really cares about the players.  It’s awesome to be a part of it.”

Saturday night will be the first meeting of the season between the Rock and the Wings.  The game will be broadcast live on TSN2 at 7pm ET and will be available on TSN Mobile TV.
