MacDonald Re-Signs; UFA Slade Added

Deep Roster Gets Deeper With Signings

Oakville, ON – Toronto Rock Owner, President and GM Jamie Dawick today announced the re-signing of forward Mikey MacDonald to a two-year contract and the signing of unrestricted free agent Brandon Slade to a one-year agreement. The signings are pending league approval.

The 24-year old MacDonald had a brilliant training camp leading into the 2017 season that saw him earn a spot on the active roster. He was in the Rock’s opening night lineup against Rochester, a 12-5 road win, and potted his first NLL goal in his first game in a Rock uniform. The offensive lefty from Georgetown, ON scored five goals and dressed in each of Toronto’s first four games before seeing only spot duty the rest of the season while battling some nagging injuries. He finished the season with 11 points (5+6) in six games while corralling 17 loose balls.

“Mikey had a very strong start to the season,” said Dawick. “I think we only saw a small sample of what he’s capable of. He is a pure goal scorer with great finish. He will be a part of a real battle in training camp again, it’s a challenge I know he’s excited about.”

Slade, hailing from Orangeville, ON, enjoyed a strong summer with the Oakville Rock of Ontario’s Major Series Lacrosse. He made enough of an impression on the Toronto Rock staff to earn a spot at training camp. The 22-year old played his Junior A lacrosse with his hometown Orangeville Northmen.

“He’s the type of guy that can do a little bit of everything,” said Dawick of what he likes about Slade. “He always seems to be the guy getting important loose balls, running the ball up the floor, just doing the little things you need to be successful.”

Toronto Rock training camp is slated to begin the first weekend in November, with three exhibition games to follow before opening the 2017-18 season on Friday, December 8 in Buffalo, NY against the Bandits. The Rock’s home opener is Saturday, December 16 against the Saskatchewan Rush at Air Canada Centre.
