MAN UP WITH….Scott Campbell

When did you decide you wanted to be a pro lacrosse player?
Playing for fun growing up in Markham, which isn’t exactly a Lacrosse Mecca, I never dreamed of playing pro lax but really enjoyed it. I guess I started to realize there was an opportunity when I made the jump from minor to Jr. where I played against a guy by the name of Kim Squire who was playing in the NLL in the winter and playing Jr A. in the summer. I think any athletes goal is to play at the highest level possible so the NLL became the next logical step and I worked towards that goal.

Best lacrosse memory?
This is a tough one… I would like to insert a story here about winning a championship with a team but unfortunately I haven’t been able to win it all yet in any league. So my best lacrosse memory is winning the 201? Championship.

If you could change or add a rule to box lacrosse what would it be?
I think we need bigger nets… I only have like 10 career points.

Best pump-up song?
Too much music out there to pick just one…anything angry

Have any pre-game rituals?
I like to think of it as a routine… I wear the same under gear for the whole year, it gets washed each time but same socks, underwear and under shirt the whole year. Like to put everything on from my left side then my right. Left shoe first then right, left slash guard then right etc.

Your best lacrosse workout…
Wwhen did lacrosse players start working out? I like to work out with a friend, I have a tough time pushing myself but when working out with someone everything becomes a competition so it becomes fun at that point I can enjoy anything.

One goalie you don’t want to go one-on-one with?
I don’t like going in on a goalie I have played with before or have played a lot against. I only have a couple of moves so my odds of scoring drastically decrease when the goalie knows them.

Describe your game style…
Known for being a gritty team guy / solid defender but in the last few years I have tried to keep that part of my game and add a little bit more transition and finesse.

Who is the best player to ever hold a stick?
Another tough question… I am going to go with a guy who could do it all, Defend, transition, play Offense, an amazing leader this guy was used in every situation not just scoring goals Jimmy Veltman.

Best fight you’ve been in/seen?
I have seen a few good ones but I saw a great one between my brother Dave Campbell and Dylan Logan in a playoff series between the Brooklin Redman and St. Regis Indians. Absolutely no defence in the fight both guys didn’t care what their faces looked like as long as the other guys was worse.

In one word describe your “game face”.
Tense…I mean intense.

What’s the worst injury you’ve had?
My rookie year with Minnesota I broke my lower leg bad. I was on my hands and knees and when I looked back to see why my leg hurt I could see the sole of my shoe. Three surgeries later I am ship shape.

Favourite thing about Toronto…
Playing close to family… my family sacrificed a lot of time and money for me to be where I am today so it feels good that they can be involved a lot still.

Do you play any other sports? Did you?
I have golfed for a long time but have really started to improve my game lately it is something I want to spend more time doing. Played a lot of hockey growing up and played DIII NCAA hockey in College.
