Pascas and Watson Grab Weekly Awards

Toronto – The National Lacrosse League’s 25th season is underway and a pair of Toronto Rock players were recognized by the league in the opening week of award voting.  The opening week awards are for the first weekend of games which were played January 8th and 9th.

Bob Watson was named the Overall Player of the Week after turning in 36 saves in Toronto’s 13-7 win over Edmonton.

Watson is one of the best goaltenders to ever strap on the pads in the NLL.  In the win on Saturday night, Watson turned in a classic performance allowing just one goal on 23 second half shots, thwarting any chance of an Edmonton comeback.  In the process, the Rock starter recorded his 94th career win.

Port Coquitlam, BC native Aaron Pascas scored two goals and added an assist in the season opening victory for the Rock.  His efforts earned him Rookie of the Week honours.

Pascas made his way on to the Rock roster after being invited to the Rookie and Free Agent Camp.  He made an immediate impact in preseason scoring three goals in Toronto’s exhibition win at Colorado in early December.

The rookie has continued his consistent results through the first game of the season.  His first goal came on his first shot on his first shift.  Pascas also collected 7 loose balls in his NLL debut.

The NLL Weekly Player Awards are determined each week by a vote of the General Managers and Head Coaches of the league’s ten member teams.
