Rosey! Nick Rose Re-Signs in Rock City!

Goalie of the Year Runner-Up Is Back In Rock City

Oakville, ON –Toronto Rock Owner, President, and GM Jamie Dawick today announced the signing of Rock goaltender Nick Rose to a 1-year contract extension for the 2023-24 season.  The signing is pending league approval.

Rose, 35 from Orangeville, ON, has been the mainstay in the Rock net since being acquired at the trade deadline in March of 2012 from Calgary.  And, since Matt Sawyer became Head Coach of the Rock beginning with the 2017 season, Rose has started every single regular season and playoff game between the pipes for the club.

“He’s been the backbone of this team for the better part of the last 10 years, and it will be a strange day when you see someone else in the Toronto Rock net,” said Dawick.  “Statistically Nick had his best season ever, but we came up short as a team and Rosey’s a part of that too.  We’re excited to have him back, but like everyone, we need to take a step and get over the hump.”

Everything comes back to that next step.  Everything.  While Rose hopes to play into his 40s, with the core group of this Toronto Rock team in their prime, the Rock’s championship window is now.

“We were close last year and even though it wasn’t the best result in the end, we do feel like we’re right there,” said Rose.  “You can tell by everyone re-signing that we’re not far off and we want to win with this group, there’s definitely a sense of urgency to win now.  We all have to get better to get to the finals no matter who the opponent is standing in our way.   We need to be peaking at the right time and have the gas in the tank to get the job done while maintaining a high level of play.  We believe we can beat anyone on any given night and that doesn’t change because of how last year ended, no one is coming back just for fun. We all believe in this group.”

The talent is there.  The belief is there.  Now, there’s only one thing left to do for this group that is absolutely stacked on paper, and that is to deliver a championship to Rock City.
