Sheldon Burns Signs 2-Year Deal

November 1, 2019

SHELDON BURNS AGREES TO 2-YEAR DEAL

Veteran Defender Signs On Eve Of Training Camp

Oakville, ON – Toronto Rock Owner, President and GM Jamie Dawick announced today that veteran defender Sheldon Burns has agreed to a two-year contract.  The signing is pending league approval.

Burns, 28, was acquired by the Rock in a blockbuster trade that sent Stephan Leblanc to the New England Black Wolves back in December of 2017.  From day one with the Rock, Burns has shown his ability to be a steady defender and a player that can push the ball in transition and make plays.

“Sheldon is a key veteran piece of our defensive group,” said Dawick.  “He is in the prime of his career and we believe he will be a big contributor to any success we have this season.”

The Whitby, ON native was originally selected by the Black Wolves in the third round, 22nd overall, in the 2014 NLL Draft.  Burns is entering his sixth NLL season and third in Toronto.  In his first year with the Rock, he scored a career high 22 points in the 14 games after arriving in Toronto after the trade.  A return to those totals would be a huge boost to the Rock’s transition game.

The Toronto Rock will open training camp on Saturday at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, ON.  The team’s first exhibition scrimmage will be next Saturday, November 9 against the Colorado Mammoth at 7pm ET at the TRAC.
