Toronto Rock completes pair of roster moves

TORONTO – The defending National Lacrosse League champion Toronto Rock released journeyman defenceman John Rosa yesterday and activated Scott Campbell off the Injury Reserve and placed him on the active roster.

Campbell, 23, was acquired by the Edmonton Rush in the Expansion Draft from the Minnesota Swarm and then acquired by Toronto in a trade with the Rush for Alberta native Jimmy Quinlan. Campbell’s 2005 season with the Swarm came to an abrupt end during his seventh game when he broke two bones in his lower right leg. But the Whitby, Ont., native amassed 23 penalty minutes and scooped up 43 loose balls in those seven contests, and he will add a physical presence at 6’0″, 220 lbs. to the Rock’s defence.

Last season Rosa, a 35-year-old free agent walk-on with the Rock in 2004, had 8 points in 9 games (one goal, seven assists) along with 20 PIMs and 45 loose balls. He has 20 years of lacrosse experience under his belt including pro stints in Anaheim, Colorado, Buffalo, Detroit, Albany, New York, Washington, Syracuse and Toronto.

The Rock continue training camp this Saturday Dec. 3 in Ohsweken at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena from 1-3 p.m. before travelling to Buffalo’s HSBC Arena for a pair of exhibition scrimmages on Sunday Dec. 4 beginning at 10 a.m. These scrimmages are open to the media but closed to the general public.

Toronto begins defence of the Champion’s Cup on Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Air Canada Centre in a rematch of last year’s championship final against the Arizona Sting. For tickets, visit www.ticketmaster.ca or call (416) 872-5000.
