Troy Holowchuk Signs 1-Year Deal

TROY HOLOWCHUK SIGNS ONE-YEAR DEAL

Future Star Netminder Returns

Oakville, ON – Toronto Rock General Manager Jamie Dawick announced today that Rock goaltender Troy Holowchuk has agreed to a 1-year contract extension.  The signing is pending league approval.

The 20-year from St. Catharines, ON spent the entire 2019-20 season the Rock’s practice roster after being selected by Toronto in the fourth round, 58th overall in the 2019 NLL Draft.

Dawick has witnessed the development of Holowchuk from a young goaltender to the pros, as Dawick’s son Josh played alongside Troy all the way back to Peewee with Team Ontario.  Also, Holowchuk put in some extra time in the off-season, playing in the Rock Elite League in the winters at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, ON.

“Troy has been one of those guys, much like other top players and goalies, where he’s been one of the premier goalies all the way along at every age group, from minor right up until Junior now,” said Dawick.  “We hope he can continue along that path he is on, and it now gets tougher as they get older.  I really like his game and his composure.  He handled his first year with us very well, albeit on the practice roster, he faced a lot of shots, and we saw a lot of progress in him.”

Between the pipes, the Rock are setup quite nicely with starter Nick Rose and backup Riley Hutchcraft already in the fold, along with Holowchuk.

Last week, the NLL announced this year’s NLL Draft will be a virtual event on Tuesday, September 17.  Fans can watch on Bleacher Report Live, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter at 7:00 p.m. ET.
