What to watch for vs. Halifax Thunderbirds Playoff Edition

Rob Hellyer Makes His Return

Hamilton, ON – The Toronto Rock (13-5) take on the Halifax Thunderbirds (11-7) tonight at FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton, ON.  The game will be the Rock’s first ever playoff game in Hamilton.

The winner of tonight’s game will advance to the best-of-3 East Conference Finals against the winner of the Buffalo vs. Albany East Conference Semi-Final game to be played on Saturday night in Buffalo.

Fans can watch the game vs. Halifax live at 7:30pm ET on TSN1/4 and TSN’s digital platforms via TSN.ca and the TSN App.  To stream the game, simply login to TSN Direct with your cable or satellite provider’s credentials or your TSN Direct account info if you’re a subscriber to the streaming service.

Here’s what to watch for in tonight’s matchup.

  • Rock star forward Rob Hellyer will make his return to the lineup tonight. Hellyer missed the Rock’s last four regular season games after suffering an upper body injury on April 1 at Gerogia.
  • The Rock have won 5-straight games coming into tonight’s playoff opener. They enter the postseason as the NLL’s hottest team with an 8-2 record in their last 10 games.
  • The Thunderbirds won the season series 2 games to 1. The most recent meeting between the two clubs was a 15-7 Rock win back on April 16th at FirstOntario Centre.
  • Rob Hellyer’s 12 goals, 30 assists and 42 points are the active Rock career playoff highs. Colin Doyle’s 55 goals, 58 assists and 113 points are the Rock all-time career playoff leading totals.
  • The last time the NLL postseason occurred in 2019, the Rock defeated the Georgia Swarm 16-14 in the East Conference Semi-Final. In the East Final, the Buffalo Bandits got the better of the Rock 12-8.  Both Rock playoff games were played on the road.
  • Tom Schreiber’s 4.4 playoff points per game is second best in Rock history among players with at least 5 playoff games played. Garrett Billings is the all-time Rock leader with 5.22 playoff points per game.
